Rafa Nadal, the Spanish basketball and football "national" teams, Jorge Lorenzo... All of them (at least their successes) have helped to spread the Spanish anthem around the world.
Unfortunately these events hide part of the truth. Not everyone living in Spain is identified by this anthem. Furthermore, milions of people consider it as offensive, as Spanish symbols are a memories of the subjugation of some nations to Spain. This is the case for Catalans and Basques.
Yesterday evening the final of the King's Cup (Spanish football cup) was held in Valencia, between a Catalan team and a Basque one: FC Barcelona and Athletic Club de Bilbao. Obviously the Spanish anthem was played, and this is what happened:
